24 Lake of the Sky Trail and Tallac Historic Site
This scenic loop links the natural history of Lake Tahoe to its human history, from the wild creatures that inhabit the Taylor Creek marsh to turn-of-the-twentieth-century resort owners and their spectacular vacation homes.
Start: At the signed trailhead at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center
Distance: 2.0-mile loop

Difficulty: Easy
Trail surface: Singletrack, sand, pavement
Best seasons: Late spring, summer, fall
Other trail users: Cyclists, trail runners
Trailhead amenities: A large parking lot, restrooms, trash cans, water, a visitor center and gift shop
Canine compatibility: No dogs permitted on the portion of Kiva Beach west of Kiva Point. Leashed dogs are allowed on the section of beach that is part of the Kiva Picnic Area. Though leashed dogs are allowed on the trails, Tallac Historic Site is not dog-friendly. Leashed dogs are permitted on the beach west of Tallac Point.

Schedule: The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily mid-May to mid-June and during Oct, and from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily mid-June through Sept. The trails can be used from sunrise to sunset daily.

Finding the trailhead: From the intersection of US 50 and CA 89 in South Lake Tahoe, go northwest on CA 89 for 3.2 miles to the signed turnoff for the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Turn right (north) onto the visitor center road and follow it to the parking area for the visitor center. The signed trailhead is on the north side of the visitor center.
